Washington, DC /Christian News/ – A vote is expected soon on an amendment from Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) that would prevent taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood and its affiliates. The vast majority of Americans object to funding abortion. Between 2002 and 2009, an estimated $967 million in taxpayer dollars went to abortion-providing organizations. These funds are granted to abortion providers through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Much of the taxpayer money that is given to abortion providers by the Department of Health and Human Services and USAID is distributed through Title X funding, which is being eliminated, according to the current language of the Continuing Resolution (CR) in the House.

Here are some other pro-family provisions in the CR:

• Restores the Dornan Amendment to ensure that no funds pay for abortions in the District of Columbia
• Eliminates funding for UNFPA, a program that supported China’s brutal one-child policy
• Restores Mexico City Policy to ensure that international aid does not promote or pay for abortions
• Reduces funding for international family planning by over $200 million
• Eliminates funding for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, a program that promoted progressive sexual education, as well as other life provisions.

Polls show that an overwhelming majority of Americans do not want their hard-earned dollars paying for abortions and being distributed to abortion providers. It is time to stop funding Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.
