SOUTH ASIA (ANS) — Phalak Nair would not have guessed that a sleepless night would change his life forever. Living in a remote village of mostly farmers, Phalak held to deep-rooted traditional beliefs. He was fiercely opposed to Christianity and would lash out against the Christians in his village to try to detract them from their devotion to Christ.
Tanay Jayaraman, a Gospel for Asia–supported missionary, ministered in Phalak’s village. He also led a church in the area, which Phalak’s parents attended.
When Tanay showed a movie on the life of Jesus in the village, Phalak came. Tanay tried to share the Gospel with Phalak afterwards, but Phalak just argued with him. Phalak had many questions about Jesus for the pastor which, by God’s grace, Tanay was able to answer. However, Phalak was still not satisfied.
That night, as Phalak went to bed, a scene from the movie he had just viewed kept playing over in his mind—the part where Jesus was crucified. The thought of Jesus dying for sinners captivated him and kept him awake. This sleepless night became a turning point in Phalak’s life.
Phalak visited the pastor in the morning and shared with him how the scene of Christ’s crucifixion had touched his heart. That same day, Phalak put his trust in Jesus and Tanay truly rejoiced. He has since watched Phalak grow in his faith and participate actively in the church.
